Supermarkets offering personal scanners. What do you think about it?

I don’t think it’s a good idea. Once you get the hang of it, it’s probably a few seconds faster than just going through the checkout, but at the cost to the store (for implementing the system and the potential sales loss from shoplifting), to the employees (who could lose their jobs since they wouldn’t be needed anymore), and to customers (who might have to pay higher prices because the store might have to raise prices to not experience a drop in profit from potential shoplifting), I don’t think it’s worth it. I’d rather wait in line for a minute or even a few minutes than be responsible for someone being unemployed, or having to pay higher prices because of shoplifters.
I don’t know what that means.

They have those at the walmart and winn dixie where I live and it’s good except if you get stuck behind a dumb ass who does not know how to use it (common sense)
sounds like a good idea but I think that shoplifting will become a problem. Maybe if they could have you weigh your bags at the payment terminal, (some self-checkout lanes have this feature) it won’t be such a big problem
They have them here and I hate them. If you use a Debit card, you have to wait 20 minutes for cash back.

Why not take away the checkers and baggers jobs too! Everything else is being sent out of the country!!
Well…..Sounds kinda fun and different but…I’m noticing too much technology lately….Like the new car I bought…If you leave it for a few minutes the doors lock themselves!! What if you don’t want to lock the doors? Good thing I took the keys with me! Oh! And the radio turns itself up and down depending on your speed! I hate that! I’m quite capable of doing that myself. AND you can’t change a setting to not make it do that. So you see…things become easier but …then you loose control!
I have to use them all the time- they give you back the wrong change sometimes too. I got back $5bucks too much the other day.I told the lady there it was screwed up.
You can’t talk to real people now and you can’t get waited on either, so we have to do it ourselves I guess.
I like them but here they get very busy so they need more of them!
We have it here in St. Cloud at Coborns. It is very popular and it saves us and the customers a great deal of time.
